Medical Student Academic Support & Counseling

Peer-to-Peer Tutoring

The UC College of Medicine has a well-established and highly utilized Peer-to-Peer Tutoring program.

Second- third- and fourth-year medical students as well as students from the MD/PhD program serve as peer tutors for the first- and second-year medical students. Tutoring is offered in all of the major science blocks.

The goal of tutoring sessions is to further explain and reinforce what was taught in lectures. Tutors are skilled at helping students identify key concepts and high yield material, as well as helping students to improve study skills and habits.

Tutoring is provided in group and individual settings and is free of charge. Tutor teaching materials are accessible to all students via the student curriculum management system.

Students can check for individual, small group and supplemental Instruction (SI) or large group tutoring sessions via Medonestop portal. After logging in, go to "Quick Links" - “I want a tutor”. Tutors post sessions to the calendar by course and students can click on a session to sign up. For large group sessions, tutors will post to the tutor calendar and notify students with announcements through Google groups.  Large group sessions are open for drop-ins unless otherwise instructed.

For each course, students have a 15 day, future view of the tutoring calendar.

Email Madelyn Milner, Office of Student Affairs, UCCOM, if you have tutor program questions.
