Medical Student Academic Support & Counseling

ADA Compliancy

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is dedicated to ensuring equal access to educational opportunities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The College of Medicine may provide reasonable accommodations to students with a documented disability. Examples of reasonable accommodations include extended time on exams and limited distraction testing environments.

The College of Medicine Disability and Accommodation Committee reviews all requests for accommodations in a timely manner, and designated staff in the Office of Medical Education oversee implementation of the accommodations.

The assistant dean for academic support serves as the chairperson for the Disability and Accommodation Committee. In that role, the assistant dean for academic support coordinates the process and serves as the primary contact person.

The assistant dean for academic support will also assist students with the process of requesting accommodations for the USMLE exams. However, it is important to note, the College of Medicine has no jurisdiction over determining eligibility for accommodations for the USMLE.

Policies and Procedures for Students with Disabilities, including guidelines for documentation, can be found on Medonestop. Tab to:  Other Resources, click on Student Handbook (PDF). Students should complete the Student Request for Academic Accommodations form and submit it along with the required documentation to the assistant dean for academic support.
