Career Counseling

Career resources and counseling are available to University of Cincinnati College of Medicine students in all four years of medical school to assist them in making an important choice of a medical specialty that draws upon their talents and abilities and yet meets professional and personal goals.

The AAMC's comprehensive medical career planning website, Careers in Medicine, is an excellent starting point for career exploration.

Students are urged to schedule regular meetings with UC faculty advisors and specialty counselors as needed as well as attend departmental specialty meetings where in-depth career information is provided.

Many student-led specialty organizations and activities offer another route to specialty exploration.

Details about residency matching processes and the National Residency Matching Program are reviewed with students by the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Admissions in class meetings and in individual meetings with every senior medical student. In addition to departmental specialty counselors, a student's advisor and other Student Affairs staff in the Dean’s Office are available to provide career consultation.
