Welcome to the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Working in partnership with the Mayfield Clinic & Spine Institute, we are one of the largest and most respected groups of neurosurgeons and related specialists in the United States.
Through our affiliation with three outstanding hospitals—University, Christ and Good Samaritan—we are committed to providing our patients with state-of-the-art clinical care in an ethical and caring environment. And because of the large number of doctors on our faculty (23 neurosurgeons and five neurointensivists) we are able to offer our patients specialized expertise in virtually every aspect of neurosurgery.
As teachers, we rank among the best. Year in and year out, the clinical and teaching excellence of our faculty has made our residency in neurosurgery one of the most highly sought-after training programs in the nation. It is also one of the largest.
Also highly coveted are our eight fellowships in cerebrovascular, endovascular, functional, neurocritical care, neuro-oncology, skull base, spine and research.
We proudly note that our residency and fellowship graduates are working in 16 countries and are on the faculty of many other prestigious institutions, including Johns Hopkins University, the Mayo Clinic, Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Fifty percent of our resident graduates have accepted faculty positions at academic institutions during the past several years.
Of course, our medical students, along with students from other U.S. medical schools, gain immeasurably from exposure to a premier neurosurgical department during their fourth-year rotations.
Never content with the status quo, we maintain active and growing research programs in various neurological disciplines while striving to develop newer and better treatments for our patients.
