Ophthalmology Specialty Clerkship

Students will be exposed to general and subspecialty ophthalmology at the Cincinnati Eye Institute and at the University, Veterans, and/or Children's Hospitals. Students will be taught essential ophthalmic examination techniques, participate in patient examinations, and may have an opportunity to observe ophthalmic surgery.

Reading requirements include basic ophthalmology text by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a current manual on eye examination and diagnosis. Students also are required to view self-instructional ophthalmic images CD. Direct patient responsibility is limited. Written & practical examination will be given at the end of the session.

The Ophthalmology clerkship for 2011-2012 will require attendance at a Saturday orientation to the clerkship that will last approximately 4 hours. (We’ve had a mandatory orientation since 2008).
