Orientation Information   

Welcome to UC Health University Hosital and the UC College of Medicine! You may ask yourself, "What happens after I match or accept a postion in a University Hospital/University of Cincinnati College of Medicine training program?

Your program will be in contact with you as soon as their Main Residency NRMP Match Rules and Regulations allow with information about orientation for the hospital and for your program.

Orientation at UC Health University Hospital

All incoming residents and fellows who are coming from outside the UC Health system are required to attend one of our Orientation Sessions. Orientation is mandatory for all trainees. We have divided Orientation into two (2) sessions to accomodate residents and fellows who have obligations to complete prior training at another institution. 

Please take special note that most of our programs have a Department Orientation as well. Please contact your program directly for information.

University Hospital Orientation will include a "Welcome" given by Andrew Filak, Jr. MD, the Associate Chief of Staff for GME.  Dr. Filak will touch upon the "Life of a Resident" and "What to Expect." You will have safety training, learn of the many benefits UC Health has to offer, and meet the Office of GME staff who are here to assist you throughout your residency or fellowship.

There is a Communication Skills Conference given by Eric Warm, MD, one of the Associate Program Directors for Internal Medicine. Dr. Warm will guide you through the importance of communciation between the patient, patient's family, and the physician.  He will also speak about "End of Life" issues.

PRIOR to Orientation:

All residents and fellows are required to complete the UC Health Pre -Employment Drug Screening, Investigative Inquiry, Employee Application and other Human Resource's paperwork (ex: W4, direct deposit, etc.) at the UC Health Business Center, across the street from the Univeristy Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children Cincinnati Burns Hospital on Burnet Ave. 

It is your responsibility to set your appointment with Employee Health (513-585-6600).  Please be prepared to present your Social Security Card and one of the following: Picture ID, Passport or Visa when completing your screening.

All residents and fellows are required to complete online training and the access forms, all of which are included in your email from the Office of GME.  These must be completed prior to Orientation.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of GME.
